Symptoms of the Diabetic Foot Syndrome

We know that a Diabetic Foot faces challenges that come mainly from two main causes: The development of neuropathy in the lower extremity and the cause of angiopathy. Most of their symptoms are associated with dry skin reduction of the legs’ sense of touch deformation of their muscular structure, slow healing of injuries and susceptibility to infections, which can lead to more serious consequences. And this is what we call Diabetic Foot Syndrome.
  • Reduced sense of touch, numbness and pain in the leg.
  • Discoloration of the skin, skin irritation and changes in temperature sensation.
  • Blisters or wounds without pain, with slow healing.
  • Muscular dysfunctions and deformation in the toes and sole.

Causes of Diabetic Foot Syndrome

The case of neuropathy, as a consequence of Diabetes, may lead to the reduction of the legs’ sense of touch. Thus, it is difficult to notice any possible injuries. At the same time, however, it can lead to the deformation of the muscular structure, as the muscles that hold the sole and toes in the right position are also indirectly affected. The result of the latter is an increase in pressure and friction, which can cause injuries.

Diabetic Foot vascular disease, with poor blood circulation, can also lead to slow wound healing. This is the main cause of ulcers and infections.

  • Deteriorated sense of touch and increased numbness.
  • Poor blood circulation.
  • Slow wound healing and high risk of infection.

Diabetic Foot Protection

To protect your feet from the symptoms of the Diabetic Foot Syndrome, you need to start with proper care and treatment. The first step should include a Soap that offers cleansing, gentle exfoliation and removal of calluses, without injuring healthy skin. The next step is to protect the foot from pressure and friction. You can achieve this with the right anatomic insole, which corrects the position and relieves any pain of the sole, but also with the appropriate, diabetic foot-friendly pads, tubes and gel caps. Finally, it is the right hydration, which will restore the natural properties of the skin, preventing calluses and skin irritation.
  • Daily hygiene care of the diabetic foot.
  • Deep and effective hydration of the foot skin.
  • Gentle exfoliation to remove calluses and hard dry skin.

Health Tips

Even a quick glance at the skin is important. This means that we provide our feet with daily care, we check for possible injuries or changes, and immediately seek the advice and guidance of our doctor in case of symptoms.
Always be careful to cut them straight and close, as rounded nails can grow inwards and create injuries or even infections.
Exercise plays an important role. We should always remember to avoid remaining still or inactive for many hours, when sitting. Small circular movements of the toes and slight elevation of feet can enhance blood flow.
We should immediately take notice of skin injuries on our feet by daily inspection and make sure that the spots are always clean and pressure or friction-free.
Smoking adversely affects blood circulation, aggravating the symptoms of Diabetic Foot Syndrome.
Excessive heat or cold can deteriorate skin health, or even affect blood circulation.
Examining your feet prevents problems. The advice of a podiatrist can help you both prevent and deal with the consequences.
